SECTION A
Reflection

For project work, our group has done a research on STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection). From this research, we learnt that STI can be dangerous and can happen anytime and at any age. We also did alternative evaluation (PMI), where we learnt how to evaluate problems and find the solution to it. Not only that, we did our FILA chart, short for Facts, Ideas, Learning Issues and Action Plan. From that, we learnt that, there is an increasing number of teenagers contracting STI. There are different reason for this. Some of which are: peer pressure, curiousity and wanting to experiment sex. Due to these reasons, teenagers have experiment with sex and in not careful, will result in contracting, STI. Some examples of STI are, syphillis, gonorrhea and AIDS short for Aquired Immunodeficency Syndome. We even borrowed books from our school library to read up more informations to aid us on what we are working on.

Through all these research, we managed to use what we had learnt to apply on our daily life and also in science. We also got to learn more about STI, how teenagers contract them as well as, the reason why they are experimenting sex.

The problems that we encountered were meeting up with group members to get things done, compromise if the information were right, summarising all the information that we had found to make it simpler for teenagers to understand and know the dangers of STI. Other problems that we faced were trying to decide on the right topics to work on and to get things done by the deadline.

Write-up on proposed solution

Our group has come together and decided to do up a blog to convey the message to teenagers as we have come to understand that teenagers have blogs of their own and often read blogs. Through creating this blog, we wish to pass the message on to teenagers that pre-marital sex can lead to many problems like STI and it is strongly discouraged.

In order to make teenagers know about this blog, we can advertise this blog in other teenagers' blog to let the world know about the blog and all the facts we can provide with. By doing so, teenagers will come to know about the blog and visit the blog regularly to get more information. Thus, can give them a better understanding on this topic.

From this project, we used the concepts of mathematics and science to help us solve some problems that we faced. From mathematics, we used data analysis to conduct surveys and present the results in order to clearly see the results. We also compaired the rate of people with STI with other country. The rate are as followed for the survey:

- 50% [Blogging]
- 20% [Campaign]
- 30% [Talks]

So we chose Blogging because according to the survey, people prefer to look at blogs than the other two options.

We also use mathematics to find out information on the STI rates of other countries too. According to a website we found, South Carolina ranks number one for gonorrhea, number two for Chlamydia, and number four for syphilis. These show that the rate is very high in this country. If Singapore doesn’t helps any farther by spreading the message to one and other, our rate of people getting STI will be quite high too and people will suffer for not know the consequences of contracting STI. We found the information using mathematics by percentage. Even the survey, we need to use percentage to sort out on the better solution for doing this project. It helps us get a clearer view on what we found out on.

From Science, we learnt more about STI hence the information needed was easy to find. Some examples are gonorrhea and syphilis. They tell us about the effects of these diseases. For example, gonorrhea will cause rashes if not treated at the early stages. It will lead to serious effects like pains at the reproductive parts. Where else, syphilis can cause sores. But both of them can be cured if they are spotted during the early stages of the diseases. Through all the facts that we had acquired from science, it helps us complete our project in a faster and a much shorter time. It also helps our team to work well on not arguing over a small matter just because we cannot think of what is right or wrong points of STI. This helps us in a lot of way and save us lot of precious time.

That's the end of our report.
